A 16-day luxury rail journey through Central Asia

There's something rare about watching a landscape unfold from a train window — especially when that landscape shifts from Armenian vineyards to Georgian mountain passes, Caspian shorelines, and the turquoise domes of the Silk Road, all before arriving on the wide-open steppe of Kazakhstan. The Golden Eagle Caspian Odyssey is a 16-day journey that traces this extraordinary route in private, five-star comfort, with every detail organised so our clients can simply sit back and watch the world go by.

Six countries, one remarkable route

The journey begins in Yerevan, Armenia, with time to explore its ancient monasteries, Lake Sevan, and the dramatic Garni Gorge, before continuing overland and by private plane to Tbilisi. Here, days are spent wandering Georgia's atmospheric Old Town, touring the wine estates of Mukhrani, and venturing out to Gori and the UNESCO-listed cave city of Uplistsikhe. From Georgia, the journey crosses to Baku, Azerbaijan, where the walled Old Town, the ancient rock art of Gobustan, and an evening at the historic Villa Petrolea await. The Golden Eagle then carries travellers deep into Uzbekistan, calling at the desert city of Khiva, the trading hub of Bukhara, and legendary Samarkand, before continuing through Tashkent, Bishkek, and the vast alpine waters of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. The journey concludes in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Life aboard the Golden Eagle

Comfort is at the heart of this journey. Each of the train's private cabins comes with its own ensuite, and by evening, cabin attendants transform daytime seating into a proper bed with fine linens. Guests can choose from Silver, Gold, or Imperial Suite cabins, with the Imperial Suite offering a king-size bed, private lounge area, and a stocked minibar. Meals are taken in the restaurant car, evenings unwind in the lounge car, and a UK-registered doctor travels with the train throughout — the kind of quiet reassurance that makes a journey this ambitious feel entirely relaxed.

Highlights not to miss

A few moments stand out even on a journey full of them. In Samarkand, guests return to Registan Square after dark for an exclusive, illuminated light and sound show — one of the most memorable evenings of the whole trip. In Baku, a private visit to Villa Petrolea, once home to the Nobel family, ends with champagne and dinner in its restored 1880s interiors. And on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, a private cultural festival brings Kyrgyzstan's nomadic traditions to life, from horseback wrestling to golden eagle hunting displays.

What's included, and when to go

The Golden Eagle Caspian Odyssey departs on 14 September 2026 and 30 September 2027, with fares from USD $30,700 per person twin share in a Silver Class cabin (Gold Class and Imperial Suite also available).
