I was lucky enough to get to visit Vietnam in September with Ollami and Ha Travel who hosted me on an amazing famil which I am replicating in April 2026 if anyone is wanting to join me to experience first hand what an amazing county this is.

Hanoi

We arrived in Hanoi and were met by our guide who was very knowledgeable and kept us informed on our bus ride to the hotel. The hotel was the Silk Path in Hanoi, it was perfectly located near the markets, local shops, spas and restaurants so we didn’t need to go far to get anything. The hotel has the best egg coffee as well which I got very partial to on this trip. 

Halong Bay

From Hanoi we made our way up to Halong Bay for our overnight cruise – it is a bit of a drive to get to Halong Bay but worth it once on board the boat. You tender from the port to the boat, once on board you are treated like kings and queens for the journey. The rooms on the boat were well appointed, all with large windows and balconies where you could sit and watch the world go by as you cruise along Halong Bay. There are options to go swimming, kayaking, fishing off the back of the boat at night, delicious food and cooking demonstrations as well to join in with.

Hoian

Once back on land we flew to Hoian, we only had one night to see what a magical place this was, we let lanterns go in the river and got to experience some great food. You need more than one night here to really experience it properly – on my tour I have allocated three nights for this destination to really do it justice. 

Ho Chi Minh

From Hoian we flew to Ho Chi Minh to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Museums which house so much of the war memorabilia – it is very sobering to see this in real life and see how they managed during war times. The tunnels are a must see and if you are brave enough to go in them you won’t regret the experience.

Mekong River

The next day was one of my favorites, it was our day on the Mekong River. We were taken to Ben Tre which is the heart of the Mekong Delta which is famous for its lush rice fields and landscapes. We cruised along the Chet Say River where we seen what the locals do on a daily basis, we got to see how they make all things coconut, sample some of the local villages, sample some home brew and food. We had lunch at the Mango Resort – this is an accommodation we can book also if anyone is wanting to spend a night or two on the Mekong.

I could write so much more on my time in Vietnam as it has so much to see and do, as I said at the start I am taking a tour in April 2026 which will be fully guided by locals throughout Vietnam and we are also visiting Ankor Wat before we come home, if anyone is interested in know more or joining me on the April tour please contact myself of the office for details.
